What Is a Pix QR Code?
A Pix QR code is a payment code in the BR Code standard of Banco Central do Brasil, the central bank that runs Pix. It holds your Pix key, your name, your city, and, if you choose, an amount and a reference.
Pix is Brazil’s instant payment system. Money moves between bank accounts in seconds, every day of the year, and payers pay no fee in most cases. A Pix QR code removes the slowest part: typing a long key by hand.

Which Pix Key Can You Use?
Any Pix key registered to your account works: CPF or CNPJ, phone number, email, or a random key.

How Customers Pay With a Pix QR Code
Payers scan a Pix QR code inside their bank app, not with the phone camera. The camera may show the code as text, but only a bank app can pay it.
- The payer opens their bank app and chooses Pix, then Pay with QR code (Pagar com QR code).
- They point the camera at your Pix QR code. The app shows your name and the amount.
- If you did not set an amount, they type it.
- They confirm, and the money reaches your account in seconds.
Every Brazilian bank and payment app that offers Pix can read the same code, because they all follow the BR Code standard.

A fruit stall at a street market can take every payment with one printed Pix QR code. Here is a typical setup.
- The owner creates a Pix QR code with a random key and no fixed amount.
- The code is printed 8 cm wide with the frame Pague com Pix and taped to the counter.
- Customers scan in their bank app, type the price, and show the confirmation screen.
- No card machine, no change, and no fees for the customer.
Is a Pix QR Code Safe?
Yes, as long as payers check the name their bank app shows before they confirm. A Pix QR code only fills in the payment. The payer still sees who receives the money and must approve it.
The main risk in public places is a fake code stuck over the real one. Print your business name next to the code, laminate it or place it behind glass, and check it from time to time. Tell staff to ask customers to read the receiver name aloud for large payments.
Tips for a Pix QR Code That Pays Smoothly
- Test with a small payment. Pay R$ 0,01 or R$ 1,00 to yourself before printing.
- Show your name next to the code. Payers compare it with the name their bank app shows.
- Keep the code dark on a light background. Bank apps read high contrast fastest.
- Print at least 3 x 3 cm. Use 8 cm or more on a counter sign.
- Protect against tampering. Check now and then that no one has stuck a different code over yours.
What a Pix QR Code Cannot Do
This generator makes a static Pix QR code. It cannot confirm payments, set an expiry, or create one-time charges.
- You see payments in your bank app, not in IMQRScan.
- One-time charges with an expiry, called cobrança or dynamic Pix, come from your bank or payment provider.
- The payer needs a Brazilian bank or payment account with Pix.
- To change the key, name, or amount, create a new code. A Pix code cannot be edited after printing.
